Finishing the third round of running marathons on all seven continents. Sarah was the first German woman to complete a marathon on all 7 continents in 2007 (Chicago Marathon 02, Antarctica Marathon 03, Tierra del Fuego Marathon 05, Ulm Marathon 05, Marrakech Marathon 07, Nagano Marathon 07, Sydney Marathon 07) and also became the first German to join the Grand Slam Club by running a marathon at the North Pole in 2009. She was born and raised in Heidelberg, Germany and after studying at the University of Hamburg moved to the U.S. to work as an attorney in international law.

Anand has run 20 marathons in as many months, taking part in exotic marathons on the continents such as the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (Kenya, Africa), Australian Outback Marathon (Australia), Athens Classic Marathon (Greece, Europe) Disneyworld Marathon (USA, North America), Galapagos (Equador, South America) and the Borneo International Marathon (Malaysia, Asia) as well as the North Pole Marathon on the Arctic Ocean. After seeing the statue of Pheidippides during his Athens Marathon, Anand was inspired by the fact he was depicted running barefoot and subsequently organised the world’s first barefoot half-marathon in his home town of Navi Mumbai. With 306 athletes running the entire 13.1 miles barefoot, the first edition set a Guinness World Record for the 'Largest Barefoot Run'. Having already run the Gold Coast marathon barefoot, Anand plans to complete full marathons on six continents barefoot in 2012, but not daring to do so in Antarctica.
Participated in numerous ultramarathons including in the Andes, Sahara Desert and the Himalayas. For each kilomtere run in these events, Sebastian would persuade companies to make donations to five disadvantaged entities. The Antarctic Ice Marathon & 100k events will be used by Sebastian in the same manner, with companies like OMINT, Codere, Gatorade, Bimbo Oroweat, Nature Crops Mormaii, Weber, Pole Position and Cauciones, among others, all make donations to disadvantaged entities for each kilomtere that he runs. He has set up a project called "SA18", Sebastián Armenault 18, giving lectures in schools, clubs, neighborhood development committees, senior citizens groups and companies to encourage self improvement and development. Part of a musical comedy duo in Australia for 21 years, who decided to take an early mid-life crisis and run the Ice Marathon. Rusty has completed two Melbourne Marathons and has been carb loading since April in preparation for Antarctica.
A charity runner raising funds for three British girls who urgently need treatment for a childhood cancer called neuroblastoma. Yvonne has previously completed one marathon in Vermont (USA) in a quick 3:11 hrs. However, her presence in Vermot was due to her own six-year-old son Jack needing treatment for the disease. Jack had been treated in New York in 2006 and 2007 but it proved unsuccessful and he tragically died the following year (www.jackbrownappeal.org). Running helped Yvonne cope with Jack's loss. As three British girls now desperately need treatment in the U.S.A. for the same disease, she is undertaking the marathon to help raise the necessary funds to enable these children to receive the treatment they so badly need. Finished 105 marathons in the past seven years, including stage races in the Himalayan Mountains, the Sahara Desert and on the Inca Trail. Doug holds a PhD in molecular physiology and operates clinical and research laboratories in the United States. The Antarctic Ice Marathon will represent his seventh continent to complete a marathon.
A sixteen-year-old making his marathon debut in Antarctica when running with his father Tom. Jeremy previously cycled 1,000km across Spain with his father and they decided it was time to share another adventure. They found the Ice Marathon online and decided it would be an amazing experience to undertake. They are looking forward to the challenge of the Ice Marathon and working together as a team to help each other achieve their goal of completing the race.
The dad in a father and son team from Auckland who recently celebrated their 16th and 60th birthdays together. Tom has completed the Honolulu and London marathons but the Ice Marathon will be Jeremy’s first marathon. They are looking forward to spending the time together and supporting each other throughout the event. They know it will not be easy but they are committed to finishing the 42km. They are especially looking forward to getting back to New Zealand to tell their stories of an amazing adventure.

A marathoner and Antarctic enthusiast who works as a weather forecaster at Union Glacier for the 'summer' seasons from November - January. Following on his success in winning the 2007 Antarctic Ice Marathon, Marc won the 2008 Antarctic 100k and subsequently finished second in both the 2009 and 2010 marathon events. He ran his first marathon in 1993, the Marathon of the Golden Spurs, in native Belgium. He has since run more than 50 others. Marc has also spent two summer seasons in Rothera, the Research Base of the British Antarctic Survey on the Antarctic Peninsula.

Winner of the 2006 North Pole Marathon. Alison started running eight years ago when she joined Runner’s World magazine as staff writer. She has since moved within the company to become editor of triathletesworld.co.uk. Alison has completed 18 marathons and one Ironman, and limped her way through the Marathon des Sables in Morocco earlier this year after developing bad blisters on the first day. She has since qualified for the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc in 2012.
An ardent mountaineer marathon runner who has run marathons on all continents bar Antarctica. Mala has participated in 24 climbing expeditions and most recently took part in a trekking expedition to Siachen Glacier organised by the Indian Army. The ex-banker ran the Everest Marathon earlier this year, which is the highest marathon in the world. She has also run the Macau Marathon, San Francisco and New York marathons, and the Delhi, Mumbai and Allahabad marathons in native India. She ran the world Masters Marathon in Sacremento earlier this year and previosuly medalled in the Asian Master Athletics Championships at 10,000 metres. Mala intends to complete the Marathon Grand Slam by running the North Pole Marathon in 2012 and thereby complete marathons on all seven continents and at the North Pole.

Linh is a novice runner who took up triathlons and completed her first Ironman this year. The Antarctic Ice Marathon will be her third marathon and she is using the opportunity to raise money for the Children's Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children with life threatening illnesses.

An avid hiker with most of his climbing experience in the US, Dave also reached the summit of Kilimanjaro in 2010. The Antarctic Ice Marathon is the final leg in an attempt to run marathon races on all seven continents in just under 25 days for a new Guinness World Record. Don has run 228 marathons or longer races, including all 50 states twice, and all seven continents three times. In 2007, he ran seven continents twice in a span of 307 days. Don is the race director of the Metro Health Grand Rapids Marathon.
Completed over 200 Triathlons over the last 20 years and organised and undertaken many charity events, including cycling to Africa, Land’s End to John O’Groats and London to Monte Carlo. Matt has recently formed a fundraising group called Arctic ONE (www.arctic1.co.uk), which aims to organise many other events to raise money for Charity, the first event of which will be the Antarctic Half Marathon. The Chartered Surveyor will next swim the English Channel in a Relay Team in 2012.

Mark has worked in finance in different countries across the globe and the 38-year-old has participated in the Great Wall Marathon, Two Oceans (ultramarathon), Moscow Peace Marathon, and the New York, Tokyo and Adelaide marathons. He is travelling to Antarctica with his wife Sophie.
Completed numerous marathons from the Great Wall of China to Berlin to the Two Oceans (56km) in South Africa to Boston. The Antarctic Ice Marathon will represent continent number 6 for Alvin, who is a dam builder by profession. The 40-year-old from Ventura, California started running at age 34 just 7 months after breaking his back in a motorbike accident.

A former US ranked tennis player, he will have completed a marathon all seven continents and at the North Pole when he completes the Antarctic Ice Marathon. The 61-year-old is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacements and had his own hip replaced last year. As a result of the new hip he's running slower, but 'just' wants to complete 100 marathons before curtailing his distance running.
Completed six marathons in the past 2 years. Mike is hoping to raise awareness of scoliosis (curvature of the spine) and is dedicating his Antarctic efforts to his 15-year-old daughter who recently had major surgery to correct it.

The first person from Poland to run the North Pole Marathon and hoping to become the first Pole to enter the Grand Slam Club by additionally running a marathon on all seven continents. The 41-year-old has run 19 marathons since 2007 including Spitsbergen and Tromso (Norway), Honolulu (Hawaii), Hobart (Australia), Stanley (Falklands Island) and St. George Island (Antarctica) to mention a few. A Senior Sales Manager with Hewlett Packard Poland, Krzysztof is married with two children.
A recent convert to ultramarathon running who has finished events such as the Marathon des Sables (250km) and Eco Trail de Paris (83km) as well as 25 regular distance marathons. Clement is supporting a cystic fibrosis charity called "Vaincre la Mucoviscidose". Cystic fibrosis is a deadly genetically transmitted disease that destroys lungs and provokes severe respiratory and digestive disorders. It is still incurable. The Frenchman is an active member of triathlon club in Luxembourg where he works in a Swiss private bank. His other passion is free diving and spear fishing.

Competing in his 8th Marathon, Matthew, 42, is looking forward to pushing into new frontiers. Born in Hong Kong, he enjoys endurance racing, but his true passion is exploration. An avid traveller, he also enjoys studying foreign languages and is looking forward to mixing it up with fellow athletes from across the globe.

A former geography teacher and cross-country coach at McCormick Junior High School in Cheyenne, Brent served as race director on location for the 2007 Antarctic Ice Marathon races and completed the marathon race.
