Andrea

Bonanomi

italy

Andrea is not a runner. He is in a love-hate relationship with running: while he can't stand the boring rhythmic cadence, he acknowledges the healthy benefits, the powerful impact on the mood, that meditative effect, the connection with science and nature. He loves sports, to earn the access to the athletes club, to challenge his body, his mind, his knowledge. He ran multiple marathons all over Europe, Asia, Oceania, including the Great Wall of China marathon, finishing 4th. Since 2022 he is part of the sub-3 hrs club. Along with Thom, another participant of this year's AIM, he embarked in a journey to promote physical and mental wellbeing through sports, running and being active. Sponsored by DHL, they united a Global community of 100,000 people under the goal of building healthy habits, defeat the routine and - in some cases - beat depression. They started this feat by running a marathon in the Arctic Circle, then connecting more than 200 countries from Pole to Pole, planting trees along the way and raising funds to support global charities and aid foundations. He participated in several obstacle races in Asia and Oceania, winning the Spartan Race in Taiwan in 2021 and finishing in 5th position in his age group qualifying for the World Championships. He is now into modern pentathlon aiming to compete for the European Championships in 2026.

Michael

united states

Michael has embarked on an incredible marathon journey, having completed races on six continents and preparing for his seventh. His passion for running started in Lima, Peru, where he joined a running group and later ran the Chicago Marathon in 2001 and the New York City Marathon in 2002. Michael ran a marathon each year until finishing the Mexico City Marathon in 2011 while living in CDMX. The inspiration to run marathons on every continent came during a motorcycle trip across Patagonia in 2017, where he stopped at Torres del Paine National Park to run the Patagonia Marathon, a challenging race with stunning scenery. In 2018, after climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with his daughter, he completed a marathon to mark the occasion. His marathon journey continued with the "authentic" Athens Marathon in 2022 and marathons in Cairns, Australia, and Kobe, Japan, in 2023. Michael is particularly excited to run alongside his son Webb, who will be completing his first marathon.

Iain

Buchan

south africa

With his illustrious career in provincial rugby, Iain's short legs and stocky frame make him the poster child for long-distance running—if you squint hard enough. Having successfully conquered both Kilimanjaro and Mount Vinson, Iain spectacularly failed to summit Ojos del Salado in Chile, a story he recounts with more pride than his actual successes. He’s trekked to the South Pole, not because he loves snow, but because he thought it would make for a great story at his local pub. At 75, Iain may not be the fastest runner, but he is undoubtedly the most entertaining one on the course, committed to turning every marathon into a saga of epic proportions.
